This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for April 27, 2007:
To be consistent with the Thoreau quote posted below the question, I would suggest that we begin by questioning the very basis of capitalism. Is capatalism worth maintaining the way it is? How could it be changed for the better of the common good?
I think once we begin the discussion in a larger framework, then more books like Capatalism 3.0, The Soul of Capatalism, and Gar Alperovitz's book whose title escapes me right now, will find broader audiences and greater influence.
That will effect the marketplace on the macro scale and long term, which is really what we need. I beleive we have made some head ways into greening up by the 3 R's, but considering that thousands of chemicals are invented every year, the nuclear industry continues to make garbage that will outlive the next ten generations, and big oil and car still think that oil is it, it is time to begin considering changing the larger picture while we keep the micro practices in place.
