What are you learning?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 20, 2008:
I can be found,
at many times
of the day,
with a book in my hands.
Today during break may be Gaias Garden,
or Abrahm's Curse.
or a work related magazine.
I start the day with
The Tibetan Book of the Dead.
A cup of coffee, the recliner,
and Western Wind: an Introduction to Poetry.
Notepad on hand.
On Saturday, at the table, same coffee,
with Fire Officer open,
ready to be marked for notes.
Big test coming in December.
Every so often, I quiet myself
with A New Earth, a nugget
for my day on my
third reading.
In between all the information
I read a bit of Population 485,
or a mystery,
or some Russo.
And then their's the always dynamic
field of the relationships
I exist in.
The co-workers, fellow volunteers,
committee members, friends,
writers, lover, sons,
the earth, and numerous
other people and their issues all over
the planet.
In all this, I am learning that
it is far easier to flow
in the oneness that unites us
instead of maintaining a
separate "I", that makes me
need to put myself first,
to have an identity, to wear all
these different hats that
change so often
it's a wonder I'm not bald.
Or crazy.
But learning the now
helps me focus on the
task at hand, whatever it
may be,
and be present for
who ever I am with,
and to be able to say "no"
when the requests for time
get beyond what I can
present for.
I'm learning life.
