What helps you stay open?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 11, 2008:
Famous quote, famous now!
The book is in your hand,
the stupid Smiley Face
and title,
attributing
fascism to liberals;
what do you do?
"You can't judge the book by looking at the cover...."
More subtle are my own ideas.
Ah yes, the winds that ruffle
when a news source
quotes someone spouting stupidity
that rankles me,
I am holding on too tight.
Or a freind is aggreived by a co-worker,
and I get angry; why?
I am holding on to
something that isn't mine.
I take a breath, and lay my hands open,
palms up.
A stone is there in my hand,
a gift,
and I can close my fist
around it,
IT's MINE!
But then I can't see it,
enjoy it, nor can you.
But if I turn my hand up,
and open my fingers,
and let it lay there,
I can, you can,
and it's still mine as long
as it's there on my hand.
I let go of it.
I let go of my judgements,
my political ideals,
my beliefs, my sports teams,
my tastes in music, food, and wine
that judge others as being
somehow wrong, or less than.
The divine in me recgnizes
the divine in you,
Namaste my friend.
And whenever something stops that
from happening,
I breath, and
open my hands,
and let go.
