When is competition valuable?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 03, 2008:
when both competitors emerge
better for their effort,
when no one is
considered a loser,
then competiton has
proved worthy.
when it is the love
of the action
that drives the
competitors to face
each other,
to test their skills
then competiton has
proved worthy.
such things are
rare these days,
with overlagre salaries
tax give-aways
and endorsements
that result in
brawls and
showboating
and lawsuits
that only reveal
that profit
and immaturity
rule the day.
